A few words, about...

Styliani Papatzani is a Civil Engineer, with a PhD in Nanomodified composite cement formulations from the University of Bath, UK, an MSc in "Concrete Structures" from Imperial College, London and two MScs (in "Structural Design and Analysis of Structures" and in "Environment and Development") from the National Technical University of Athens.

Academically, she has specialized in Nanomodified cement and mortar formulations, earthquake design of structures, design against torsion for multi-degree of freedom systems, nonlinear loading and discretization of load bearing elements.

Additionally, she has specialized in strategies on Construction and Demolition waste management, focusing on the use of recycled aggregates in concrete.

Her PhD research at the University of Bath, UK, focused on the investigation of performance of nanomodified cement pastes, comprised part of the FIBCEM project. FIBCEM is a project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme. The full project title is: Nanotechnology Enhanced Extruded Fibre Reinforced Foam Cement Based Environmentally Friendly Sandwich Material for Building Applications. The FIBCEM Consortium consists of ten project partners from five different European countries (Spain, Italy, Lithuania, United Kingdom and Denmark).

Her research interests cover the full range of scales in civil engineering; from nanoenhanced cements, to fibre reinforced concretes and all the way through to earthquake resistant design of structures.

At the same time, Styliani, has run a design and consultancy office for 10 years, one of the collaborations being with the Mayor of Athens, as a technical consultant/project manager. Styliani, has also designed a number of buildings, operating at present, linking academic knowledge with applied practices.
